LKIN Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 17, 2026
At a glance
- LKIN never knows which apps you lock. Apple's Screen Time technology gives us opaque tokens, not app names, and that data never leaves your iPhone.
- Face ID happens entirely on your device. We only receive a pass/fail result — never your biometric data.
- We sync your learning progress, streaks, and settings to the cloud (Google Firebase) so you can restore them on a new device.
- We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used, and Google AdMob to show ads on the free tier. LKIN Pro removes all ads.
- We advertise LKIN on Facebook and Instagram. To measure those ads, the App Store version of LKIN tells Meta when it is installed and opened and what happens when someone tries to subscribe. It does not ask for tracking permission, does not share Apple's advertising identifier, and is not used in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland.
- Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card details.
- We do not sell your data. You can export or permanently delete your data from inside the app at any time.
What stays on your device
Screen Time and app locking. LKIN uses Apple's Screen Time technology (the FamilyControls and ManagedSettings frameworks) to lock the apps you choose, after you grant a system permission. When you select apps to lock, iOS gives LKIN opaque tokens — we cannot see which apps you selected, and neither can our servers. The screen-time report shown during onboarding (your most-used apps) is rendered by an OS extension entirely on your device. None of this Screen Time data ever leaves your iPhone or reaches our servers.
Face ID. If you turn on the optional Face ID requirement before lock changes, authentication is performed by Apple's LocalAuthentication framework. Your biometric data stays in your device's Secure Enclave; LKIN only receives a pass or fail result.
What we collect and why
Account. When you first launch LKIN, an anonymous Firebase (Google) account is created to enable cloud sync. You can optionally link it with Sign in with Apple — in that case we receive your name only if you choose to share it, plus an Apple-provided identifier. We never receive a password.
Cloud sync. To restore your progress if you reinstall the app or switch devices, we store the following in Google Firebase Firestore:
- Learning progress per word (state, correct/wrong counts, review schedule)
- Your streak: count, a calendar of practiced days, and streak-freeze usage
- Lifetime learning stats, and a record of each practice session: when you finished it, which words it covered, how many you got right first time, and what triggered it
- Saved words and curriculum stages passed
- App settings: chosen language, daily goal, session size, unlock window, and reset bookkeeping
- Your display name, if you signed in and shared it
Support requests. If you are a Pro user and use the optional in-app support form, we collect your name, contact details (the email or phone number you type), your problem description, app and iOS version, subscription status, and learning language. This is stored in Firestore and used only to answer your request. Deleting your account also deletes your support tickets.
Analytics. We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect usage events (for example: session completed, paywall viewed, feature used), device model, OS version, and coarse usage metadata per Google's standard collection. We use this to improve the app.
Measuring our own ads (Meta). LKIN includes Meta's Facebook SDK so we can see whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram lead to installs and subscriptions. When it runs, it sends Meta:
- an identifier the SDK creates and keeps on your device for LKIN (not Apple's advertising identifier, and not shared with other apps);
- app and device details: app version, device model, iOS version, language and region, time zone, screen size, and similar technical information;
- when the app is installed and opened, and how long sessions last;
- subscription events: checkout started, subscription or free trial started, and purchases that failed or were cancelled, with the plan's name and description, price, currency, trial terms, and the App Store transaction identifiers and dates;
- crash reports for crashes involving the SDK;
- which of our ads, if any, led you to the app.
LKIN does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission and switches off collection of Apple's advertising identifier, so Meta attributes installs to ads through Apple's SKAdNetwork. We ask Meta to apply Limited Data Use where it is available. The SDK receives nothing about the apps you lock, the words you learn, what you type, or your conversations with Chloe. It runs only in the App Store version of LKIN, and not at all on devices set to a region in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland. Meta uses this data under its own terms and data policy, as an independent company rather than on our behalf.
Ads. The free tier shows banner ads and optional rewarded ads served by Google AdMob. LKIN does not ask for tracking permission and does not pass Apple's advertising identifier to Google, so these ads are not personalised using it. LKIN Pro removes all ads.
Payments. LKIN Pro subscriptions are billed and managed entirely by Apple through your App Store account. We never receive your payment card details. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Third-party processors
We do not sell your data. We work with these processors:
- Google (Firebase) — anonymous accounts, cloud sync of learning data, support tickets, and analytics; servers operated by Google.
- Google (AdMob) — ad serving and measurement on the free tier.
- OpenAI — powers Chloe, the voice practice partner. When you speak to Chloe, your iPhone turns your words into text on the device; that text (and the language you are practising) is sent to OpenAI through our server so Chloe can reply. For a few languages your iPhone cannot recognise or speak naturally, short audio clips of your turns are sent to OpenAI (Whisper) to be transcribed and Chloe's replies are voiced by OpenAI. We do not keep the audio or the conversation. OpenAI may retain the text for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, then deletes it; it is not used to train models. Speech is recognised by Apple's speech recogniser — on your iPhone where your practice language supports it, otherwise through Apple's servers under Apple's privacy terms.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and subscription purchases. Reminders LKIN sends are scheduled on your device and are not sent through any server.
Meta Platforms is not our processor: it receives the ad-measurement data described above and uses it under its own terms and data policy (Meta Business Tools Terms). You can read how Meta handles it at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Data retention
Your cloud-synced data (learning progress, streaks, settings, support tickets) is kept for as long as your account exists so we can restore your progress across devices. When you delete your account in the app, this data is permanently deleted. Screen Time and Face ID data are never collected in the first place, so there is nothing for us to retain.
Your controls
- Export my data (Settings > Your data): download a JSON export of your settings, streak, progress, and session log.
- Delete account & data: permanently deletes your cloud data (progress, sessions, support tickets) and your sign-in. This is available directly in the app — no need to contact support.
- Reset all data: wipes your local and cloud progress.
International transfers
Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country, including in the United States and India, by the processors listed above.
Children
LKIN is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights under GDPR and UK GDPR
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your data, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise most of these rights directly through the in-app tools described above (export, deletion, reset), or by emailing us at lkin@gamifytechsolutions.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Your California rights
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect (described in this policy), the right to delete it (available in-app via Delete account & data), and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell your data. To exercise these rights, use the in-app tools or email us at lkin@gamifytechsolutions.com.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you through the app and update the date at the top of this page.
